CONNECTED TO MUSIC - DECEMBER 2009 UPDATE
On Tuesday 8 December 2009, we were delighted to welcome Richard Hallam MBE - contracted to the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) as the National Music Participation Director - to see the work at The Grange School. Welcomed by Head Teacher, Gaynor Yates, Richard stayed for the whole morning, observing the music making activities of Leah Mugridge's Year 6 group.
Speaking about his visit to the Connected to Music project, Richard Hallam said: "It was a privilege to be able to see the whole of the morning session. I was particularly impressed by the way the musicians interacted with the children and treated them with respect. The children's views and comments were valued, handled positively and their ideas were taken forward and built upon in a totally positive way. I look forward to visiting again in the New Year."
Connected to Music has got off to a fantastic start, and plans are underway for future activities including:
- A further three training events for the Creative Ensemble;
- Monthly visits by the Ensemble to seven Daventry schools plus Daventry Music Centre taking place;
- Planning for the culmination concert at Royal & Derngate in July;
- Learning resources are being developed in association with NUMU who have websites for both music students and teachers. NUMU have offered to carry a wide range of Connected to Music resources including hosting a forum for music teachers to discuss the project, providing facilities for students to upload work they create through the programme, and providing space to upload resources and video/music from activity for others to benefit from.
Lastly, the first Connected to Music newsletter has been produced, aimed at those taking part in the project. A PDF of the newsletter can be download below.
