Creative Journeys in Hadleigh
Creative Journeys is a broad arts programme celebrating the creative contribution of older people in society, with the orchestral strand of the programme developed through an initial project devised by Orchestras Live in north Essex in 2015.
Over the last few months, the artistic team of Sinfonia Viva musicians led by composer Sam Glazer have been working with local care home residents, care staff, and people living with dementia and family carers at a Memories Café in Hadleigh, Suffolk, to enjoy making and listening to music together. Some of the participants even created a new song inspired by the sea, which Sam orchestrated for Sinfonia Viva. At the end of April, these groups came together to give a public performance of the music they had created alongside the orchestra and baritone soloist Thomas Mole.
“We’d love to do it again, because it brings the group together. With lots of other things, only a certain element joins in, but everybody joined in, there wasn’t one person who didn’t.”
“Best day I’ve had for a long, long time.”

Produced through the partnership between Orchestras Live, Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Council and Hadleigh Dementia Action Alliance, this orchestral project is part of the wider Creative Journeys programme celebrating the creative contribution of older people in society.
