NewsNews Story
Orchestras Live is delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Swann as a trustee of the organisation.
Matthew Swann is a classical music producer, curator and strategist. He has over 20 years’ experience across orchestral, chamber and choral music, creating ground-breaking formats and promoting a participatory and inclusive approach. He is co-founder of Your Turn Collective, a Director of Recruitment and Organisational Change at Achates, and until 2021 was Chief Executive of City of London Sinfonia (CLS).

Over the course of a decade at City of London Sinfonia, he transformed the orchestra into an audience engaged ensemble, with new and innovative performance formats that grew young, diverse audiences, and was driven by its participation programme that engaged with wider societal issues. He continues to advocate for the benefits that orchestras bring to the healthcare sector, particular as regards mental wellbeing and social prescribing.
With his co-founders at Your Turn Collective, they empower music creators from underrepresented backgrounds to create new work, reimagine historical repertoire and build community programmes on their own terms.
At Achates, he provides organisational change consultancy to a wide range of clients across arts and culture, including establishing a market disruptor, ethical executive search division with a focus on diversity and inclusion in senior roles in arts and culture. Previous to CLS, Matthew was a producer at the Roundhouse in Camden, where he created the Reverb and Voices Now festivals.
I am delighted to be joining Orchestras Live at this pivotal time for culture in England as we come out of the pandemic. Orchestras Live's projects during lockdown further demonstrated the ability and value that orchestral musicians bring in connecting individuals and building communities, especially children and young people. Having worked with Orchestras Live as a partner for over 10 years, most recently on our co-authored Orchestras In Healthcare report, I'm very excited to be joining as a trustee.

We are delighted to welcome Matthew to the board of Orchestras Live. He brings a wealth of experience gained over 20 years as a classical music producer, curator and strategist across orchestral, chamber and choral music, creating ground-breaking formats and promoting a participatory and inclusive approach. His strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity, the benefits of health and well-being and the significance in wider society of the orchestral sector further reinforces that ambition on the Orchestras Live board.
